<p style='text-align: justify;'><p>The “Cambridge panel” design (see <a href='/view/PR-REL-F-00001-B-00011'>Rel.f.1b.11</a>) could be varied by dabbing or sponging an acid solution on the leather surface, as well as sprinkling it; this is another binding made for the University Library by Francis Hopkins in 1713, using this technique.</p><p>Pasteboards, covered with mid-brown calfskin, sprinkled to create a two-tone panelled effect, blind-tooled. Red spinkled leaf edges; narrow gilt roll round board edges; conjugate plain paper flyleaves and pastedowns.</p><p>Dr David Pearson</p></p>
