<p style='text-align: justify;'>One of Peterhouse’s unique holdings: an indulgence granted by Pope Leo X for the reconstruction of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, and for the support of the Augustinian Friars’ Churches of England and Ireland, printed in London in 1517 or 1518, probably by Richard Pynson (d. 1530), King’s Printer to both Henry VII and Henry VIII. </p><p style='text-align: justify;'>The indulgence, printed as a single sheet, is now split in two and survives as pastedowns on the boards of a 1523 Venice edition of a Concordance of the Hebrew Bible later owned by Andrew Perne (1519?-1589), Master of Peterhouse, 1553/4-1589.</p><p style='text-align: justify;'> Dr Marie Turner<br /> Peterhouse, Cambridge</p>
