<p style='text-align: justify;'>Broadsides commemorating executions were a popular genre in the early nineteenth century, at a time when executions themselves were public events. This example from 1829 is typical of the form, consisting of an account of the crime and criminal, a verse written partly in the voice of the condemned exhorting others to avoid his fate, and a crude woodcut depicting the execution itself. <br />Will Hale, Rare Books Specialist, CUL</p>
