<p style='text-align: justify;'>A broadside commemorating the visit of future Grand Duke of Tuscany, Cosimo III de Medici, to Cambridge in May 1669. It contains the texts of two philosophical themes in Latin verse, ascribed at the foot of the sheet to Richard Wroe (1641-1718), Fellow of Jesus College and later warden of the collegiate church (now the cathedral) in Manchester. The themes were debated in front of the prince in the Regent House on the morning of his visit, and include a defence of Copernican cosmology. A misleading contemporary account of the visit led historians to conclude that Cambridge had still not adopted the Copernican view in 1669; the discovery of this broadside in 2019 demonstrates that that was not the case. <br />Will Hale, Rare Books Specialist, CUL</p>
