<p style='text-align: justify;'>Photographs taken in March 1946 by Joseph Needham in Nanking (Nanjing) 南京市 when he and Lu Gwei-djen (Lu Guizhen) 魯桂珍 visited her family and friends there. There are also some of SBSCO staff members taken before they left Chungking (Chongqing) 重慶市. The films and their photographs were not originally labelled in strict chronological order. Some sections of the negatives were not developed because there was no image on the negative or because any images present were severely damaged or indistinct.</p><p style='text-align: justify;'>These images are also available to view in date order <a target='_blank' class='externalLink' href='http://www.nri.cam.ac.uk/JN_wartime_photos/e.htm'>here</a>.</p><p style='text-align: justify;'>Further information and resources are available about Needham's time in China from 1943-1946 as Director of the Sino-British Science Cooperation Office <a target='_blank' class='externalLink' href='http://www.nri.cam.ac.uk/JN_wartime.htm'>here</a>.</p>
