<p style='text-align: justify;'>Two black and white photographs of diffraction bands caused caused by a thin wire in strong and feeble light. See: Taylor, Proc. Camb. Phil. Soc., 15, 114, 1909. The exposures were 4 minutes (left) and 400 hours (right). In 1909, G.I. Taylor had asked JJ Thomson about possible areas of research and JJ suggested the investigation of the interference of light waves of very low intensity. Although the light photons only arrived one at a time, the characteristic diffraction pattern was observed.</p>
