<p style='text-align: justify;'>The 1931 Exhibition of Maxwell's apparatus marked the centenary of his birth. The display of instruments was located in Searle's teaching laboratory on the first floor of the back (east) wing of the original Cavendish building and consisted of many of the instruments now in the Laboratory's collection of historic scientific instruments. The list of exhibits is contained the 'Handbook for the Maxwell Centenary Celebrations' in 1931. This was part of a major University celebration of the centenary of Maxwell's birth.</p>
