Cavendish Laboratory

Photograph of an x-ray tube made for JJ Thomson in 1896 by his personal assistant Ebereezer Everett. Discovered in November 1895 by Röntgen, X-rays became a matter of the greatest public interest overnight. In 1896 there were already more than 1000 articles on X-rays. They became a medical diagnostic tool and the Laboratory provided facilities for taking X-rays of broken bones, etc. See P27.
