<p style='text-align: justify;'>X-rays were discovered in late 1895, the year before these photographs were taken. Their study soon entered the research programme of the Laboratory. J.J. Thomson investigated their nature and their influence on the conductivity of gases. In 1912, the Bragg's law describing the reflection of X-rays by crystals and the resulting X-ray difraction patterns were first published. (Longair, 2016, p. 161). Medical X-ray images quickly became a tool of doctors and surgeons.</p>
