<p style='text-align: justify;'><p>Jane Cotton, daughter and heiress of Edward Hinde of Madingley (d. 1631) and Agnes Maple, married Sir John Cotton of Landwade (<b>242</b>), unifying these estates. From this time until 1863 it was the Cottons (alias Hynde Cottons) who were the significant Madingley family. She died 1692 age 62 and is shown reclining on a tomb chest under an inscription tablet in alabaster and black marble. The tablet is draped with a swag and decorated with garlands and cherub heads. Her husband was buried in a vault in Landwade church (<b>238</b>), the long-standing burial place of the Cottons, but her daughter, Jane Cotton (<b>254</b>) is buried near her.
