1820

All Saints was mostly rebuilt after a fire in 1349. The tower, spire and S porch are C15, the hipped roof of the S transept possibly 1770, all the roofs were tiled by 1742 and the aisle roof was covered with lead, although the chancel was thatched in 1623. The S chapel, built as the Cheyney chapel, became the Hatton memorial chapel in C17, but in 1787 their monument was moved for a family vault and the S and W windows were blocked. The church looks as if it was lime washed externally when Relhan drew it. The two dormer windows lit the nave, and these were removed and others inserted 1910. Restorations in 1886 and 1891 included replacement of window tracery and rebuilding of the top of the spire (which all look convincingly similar to Relhan), and in 1908 the reordering of the Hatton chapel allowed windows, shown blocked up in Relhan, to be re-opened. RH and Elizabeth Wood were benefactors who sponsored this late C19 and C20 work, which included new glass with a series of Hatton coats of arms.

Bradley and Pevsner 2014; Davis EM pers comm; VCH 1989
