The tablet was gilded. Wakefield father and son were incumbents in turn,1589 to 1668. They presumably had Puritan tendencies as they were each in trouble (1591 and 1638) for not wearing the surplice, the younger Thomas had a Puritan as curate, he failed to observe some holy days and allowed his hogs and cows to graze in the churchyard. Under Cromwell he was commended as an ‘orthodox and godly divine’. Mary Elizabeth Pulling was the oldest sister of Relhan. She had married the Rev William Pulling of Sidney Sussex College, Master of Chudleigh Grammar School and a respected linguist, who succeeded Richard Relhan senior as curate of St Andrew the Less 1821-6.

Bradley and Pevsner 2014; VCH 1978
