Relhan Collection : 206 Haslingfield Hall. Elaborately carved stair-case

Relhan, Richard, 1782-1844

Relhan Collection

Massive oak staircase. This was re-erected at Bourn Hall (55), probably soon after 1817, when Haslingfield Hall was deserted and ruinous and Henry and Catherine Lyell owned both properties. The staircase itself is mid C17, made for Thomas (1615-1673) and Letitia Wendy (200) at Haslingfield, with some C19 material incorporated. RCHME includes a drawing and describes it as having ‘turned and enriched balusters, square newel posts with richly carved urn finials, moulded rail and close string’.

RCHME 1968; VCH 1973
