<p style='text-align: justify;'><p>Responsum of R. Jacob Conpanton (written קפנטון), in Judaeo-Spanish — specifically 15th-c. Castilian in Hebrew script. This is a rare example of a responsum written in Hebrew letters using Castilian. While the original question is not preserved, the responsum deals with the distribution of profits between an investor and an agent. It begins: תשובה להה׳׳ר יעקב קפנטון זצ׳׳ל. Above the response are accounts, also in Castilian in Hebrew letters, which mention a Don Joseph, perhaps the same man as Joseph Picho mentioned in the note on the right-hand side. Before the responsum there is a note: 'copper is called acero in the foreign tongue'. The handwriting, language and paper (laid, with clear regular chain lines) suggest the second half of the 15th c., before the Expulsion from Spain. Jacob Conpanton is probably Jacob b.
