Recto: letter, c. late 1042 CE, written by the Gaʾon Solomon b. Judah, to Sahlān b. Abraham, concerning the power struggle for control of the Jerusalem academy. Nathan b. Abraham had succeeded to the position Av Bet Din, instead of Ṭoviyya the Third b. Daniel, whom the Gaʾon had originally supported. This Nathan then proceeded to undermine the Gaʾon’s position, and establish himself as an alternative Gaʾon, but a peace was eventually agreed. The Gaʾon thanks the recipient for a donation of 10 dinars. Verso: address in Arabic script.
