Part of a letter, c. 1025 CE, written by the Gaʾon Solomon b. Judah, to Ephraim b. Šemarya, concerning the need for Ephraim to make peace with his political rival Sahlān b. Abraham, for the benefit of both the Jewish community in Fusṭāṭ, so that the judiciary will not be split, and also the academy in Jerusalem, which is under severe financial pressure with some of its members imprisoned for debts. Ephraim is also asked to send the Gaʾon’s son Abraham back to Jerusalem, as he is neglecting his money-raising mission and instead devoting his time in Fusṭāṭ to his own agenda.
