Part of a letter, c. early 1020s CE, from Joseph b. Elijah, to Ephraim ‘the Adept from the Great Court’ b. Šemarya. The writer describes his journey along the Nile from Fusṭāṭ to Ṣahrajt, Egypt, and his meeting with the Roš ha-Seder, who had experienced a tricky voyage there. The writer mentions the payment of seven quarter dinars and one hundred dirhams to the Roš ha-Seder in return for one sermon, and regrets not being able to summarise the sermon due to lack of space, although he does quote Isaiah 42:13, the text upon which the sermon was based.
