Four fragments of a letter by a South Italian traveller who having embarked on a large merchant ship had the misfortune to be shipwrecked. He writes probably from Egypt, but intends to settle in Tyre. Ca. mid-11th century. The writer refers to a visit he made to Amalfi, before embarking in Palermo (referred to as ‘Sicily’). The writer probably travelled for scholastic rather than commercial purposes, and expresses disappointment over what he found in Egypt.
