<p style='text-align: justify;'> This manuscript is a copy of <i>Nova Statuta</i>, the English royal statutes from the first year of the reign of Edward III (reigned 1327-1377) to the twenty-third year of the reign of Henry VI (1445; he reigned 1422-1461, 1470-1471). It is a fundamental text of English common law.</p><p style='text-align: justify;'>Many copies of these statutes were made in the latter half of the 15th century. This was a time of political unrest when landowners were driven to use their legal knowledge to protect their interests.</p><p style='text-align: justify;'>This manuscript is in French, which was the main language of common law until the English Civil War (1642-1651). Folios 4v-27v and 289v-313r are blank.</p>
