<p style='text-align: justify;'>This emergency passport was issued to Erna Eckstein by the British Embassy in Ankara to enable her to accompany Albert Eckstein on a trip to the UK to attend a Society of Pediatrics conference. She was unable to obtain a new passport from the German authorities when hers expired in 1939 because she was ‘anti-Nazi and a Jewess’. The passport contains visa stamps permitting travel through Turkey, Egypt, and Italy.</p>
