<p style='text-align: justify;'><p>On the island of Patmos, beds were traditionally placed in an area partitioned by a wooden screen. Curtains covered the doorway and provided some privacy. These two panels from a bed door curtain display a common pattern showing a pair of leaves topped by birds, trees and/or miniature flowers. Alan Wace, a Cambridge-trained archaeologist, named these 'King' and 'Queen' patterns but in Greece, they are described as broad leaf (platyphyllenio) and branch (spitha) motifs.</p></p>
