<p style='text-align: justify;'><p>Sometimes embroiderers had to work with whatever materials were available to them. Red thread is usually dominant in Cretan skirt borders. However, the yellow thread used here was probably because the red thread (seen on the right-hand side) was used up and the border needed to be finished before more could be found. Lion-like animals climb up triangular bands, topped by double-headed eagles.</p></p>
