The Archaic Temple was built in the early Iron Age on a north-south orientation at the apex of the acropolis; its south end was built over the ruins of the Mycenean palace Great Court. The north end was supported by the building of the north terrace wall. At the base of this terrace is a narrow limestone ledge covered with prickly, evergreen oak; the vegetation lends its name 'Prinaria' to the area which was excavated in 1939. All the plans in this series pertain to the 1939 excavation.
