<p style='text-align: justify;'>Inscribed on the flyleaf, 'J. Hen. Middleton, E. Coll. Regal. Soc.' and a later addition, 'Grand Hotel - Athens April 1892'' and 'Notebook XA'. The notebook consists of Middleton's notes on classical architecture and topography in Athens during the Spring of 1892. In particular his focus is upon the monuments on the acropolis of Athens: Propylaea, Stoa of Attalus, the Parthenon, the Erechtheum, the Asklpeion, the theatre of Dionysius, the Acropolis walls. Also a bridge between Nauplia and Epidaurus, the Epidaurus theatre and museum, Delos inscription, Pompeii mosaics arrangement, the harbour at Munychia (Μουνιχία), Piraeus. JHM created his own index to the notebook contents on a seaprate leaf of paper, placed between the front cover and flyleaf.</p>
