<p style='text-align: justify;'>One of the ancient <i>Upaniṣad</i>s, belonging to the <i>Maitrāyaṇīya</i> branch of the <i>Kṛṣṇa Yajurveda</i>. According to van Buitenen (1962), the text traditionally known under this title results from the conflation in ancient times of an original <i>Maitrāyaṇīya Upaniṣad</i> and a different work that was independently transmitted in south India as <i>Maitreya</i> or <i>Maitrī Upaniṣad</i>. This manuscript has been designed, laid out and bound as a western book. Although complete, it contains only the first five chapters of the work. </p>
